Children's Promise was endorsed at many levels including the Government. In addition to the Patronage from the Governor General it was endorsed by the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition and all Premiers and Chief Ministers. Former Governor-General of Australia and former Personal Patron of Children's Promise His Excellency The Honourable Sir William Deane, AC, KBE‘I fully support Children's Promise and am proud to be a Personal Patron of this unique initiative. Children's Promise has the potential to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people. All funds raised through Children's Promise will benefit the most vulnerable and disadvantaged young people through positive youth development programs’. Former Prime Minister of Australia, The Honourable John Howard‘Children's Promise is a simple, yet innovative and inspiring idea, which brings together government, corporations, individuals and the community sector. It is an excellent opportunity for Australians to make a commitment to greater opportunities for children and young people into the future. I have pledged my last hour's earning in 1999 to the Children's Promise. I commend this important partnership which will benefit our children and young people in the next millennium, through support for children's hospitals, community services and youth projects’.
Former Leader of the Opposition, The Honourable Kim C. Beazley‘I am happy to endorse the Children’s Promise initiative. I congratulate the Australian Youth Foundation, the Salvation Army and the Hospital Network for their involvement. Our young people are Australia’s future. Their well being will be the measure of our success. We must ensure that our young people have the benefit of supportive families, strong community networks and services, and the highest quality education and training. Children’s Promise will help us fulfil these goals’ Former Premier of New South Wales, the Hon Bob Carr‘Donating one hour of our salaries at the end of the millennium is an appealing way to support opportunities for children and young people. The young people of today will be the leaders of the future. I commend this initiative which allows people from a diversity of backgrounds to all make a symbolic and meaningful investment in the future’.
Former Premier of Queensland, the Honourable Peter Beattie‘The Children's Promise initiative is designed to create a better future for disadvantaged children and young adults. This appeal is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. I encourage all Queenslanders to be a part of this remarkable campaign’.
Former Premier of Western Australia, The Honourable Richard Court, LA‘What a wonderful initiative – and what a difference Children’s Promise will make to the lives of disadvantaged young people throughout Australia. This project has the potential for immense impact. Giving young people the tools and resources they need to become healthy and responsible citizens in the new millennium is an investment – and the return on that investment will last a lifetime’. Former Premier of Tasmania, The Honourable Jim Bacon‘The Australian Youth Foundation is an outstanding example of what can be achieved for our children when we work together in partnership. Children’s Promise is a global initiative with clear regional implications for the well being of our young Tasmanians. It recognises the vital role a strong and vibrant community of young people plays in society. I pledge my donation with the belief that the Children’s Promise initiative will stand as a beacon of hope for all young people in the next millennium’. Former Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory, Kate Carnell‘I am happy to pledge my last hour’s earnings to this unique millennium initiative. Children’s Promise is a positive project which has the potential to provide valuable support to young people into the next millennium’. Former Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, Denis Burke
‘Giving up an hour’s wages for youth is a terrific way to see one millennium out and the new one in. I would hope every wage earning Territorian will join me in bequeathing the last hour of the 20th Century to those who will spend the majority of their lives in the 21st Century, with all the challenges inherited from the century that went before yet to be taken up’. Former Commonwealth Minister for Education, Training and Youth Affairs, The Honourable Dr David Kemp‘I am pleased to support the Children’s Promise. It gives us all an excellent opportunity to make a public commitment to the future of our children and young people in the next century. I shall be joining many others in donating my final hour’s salary for this year to this inspiring cause. The Children’s Promise Project brings together three important Australian organisations – the Australian Youth Foundation, the Salvation Army and the Children’s Hospital Network – who will thus continue their outstanding contributions to the health wellbeing of our nation’s children and young people through positive youth development programs and projects. I encourage all Australians to take part in this worthwhile initiative which is also being supported in many other countries around the world’. Former Commonwealth Minister for Family and Community Services, Senator Jocelyn Newman
‘The Children's Promise initiative is an example of Business and Community partnerships at work. This initiative provides the opportunity for the corporate sector, nationally, to make a real commitment to the future of children and young people through involving their employees and the company in a community initiative that will benefit all Australians. A healthy start for children and young people is of paramount importance for our society and will assist in strengthening families in the next century I am therefore pleased to give my support to the Children's Promise and hope that many Australians will follow suit’. The late Honourable Sir Ronald Wilson, AC
